A Surin Islands snorkeling tour from Khao Lak, far from the crowds: speed out to the protected Mu Ko Surin reefs and Moken sea-gypsy waters teeming with marine life. Lunch included.
Escape the crowds on our Surin Islands snorkeling day trip and reach the breathtaking Surin Islands, home to the fascinating Moken sea-gypsy people. Mu Ko Surin National Marine Park has some of the finest snorkelling in all of Southeast Asia, and unlike many Thai hotspots the Surin archipelago remains an unspoiled paradise, largely unscathed by mass tourism.
This Surin Islands tour is built for time underwater. Known as a SCUBA and snorkelling mecca and home to one of the top-ten dive sites in the world, Mu Ko Surin is a haven for anyone who wants to explore what lies beneath the surface — vibrant coral reefs, reef fish and, if you are lucky, sea turtles. If you want an island speedboat trip with the most to see underwater, Ko Surin is likely the one for you.
The islands sit in the North Andaman Sea near the Myanmar border — just far enough to keep the Moken isolated for centuries, yet close enough to explore by speedboat today.
Surin Islands Season & Best Time to Visit
The Surin Islands National Park is open from October 15 to May 15 each year. The best conditions for snorkelling are from November to April, when seas are calm and underwater visibility regularly exceeds 20 metres. The park closes during the monsoon (mid-May to mid-October) to protect both visitors and the nesting sea turtles. Plan your trip during the dry season for the clearest water and shortest boat times from Khao Lak.

Exact timings flex with conditions and traffic — your guide sequences the stops to keep them calm rather than rushed. This is how the day usually runs.
Avoid the crowds at the islands with an early morning pick-up time. Pick-up times begin at 4am in Phuket and 5am in Khao Lak. The exact time is dependent on the location of your hotel. Enjoy a light breakfast, sip a coffee or tea, then receive a short tour and safety briefing before departure. Embark on the 75 minute cruise to the Surin Islands aboard one of our speedboats.
Explore the unique sea-faring culture of the Moken people. The Moken people, being traditionally nomadic, settled at the Surin Islands, which they have called home for centuries. Visit their traditional village, interact with their fascinating way of life, and witness their incredible skills of navigating the turquoise waters in handcrafted boats. The Moken people make traditional hand-made jewelry and crafts to share their culture with visitors. If you wish to take home one of these authentic souvenirs, remember to bring your pocket money ashore when you arrive at the village.
Based on the sea conditions, our experienced tour guides will choose the best spot for snorkelling with the fewest tourists possible. Please remember to look at, but not touch, the marine flora and fauna. As the SCUBA divers say, take only pictures and leave only bubbles. The water temperature is around 30˚C. The visibility is usually above 20m. Look out for sea turtles while exploring colourful coral reefs, teaming with vibrantly coloured fishes and invertebrates. Thailand is home to five sea turtle species, from the ornate-shelled Hawksbill to the largest species in the world, the Leatherback.

For your lunch break, we will take you to the Mu Ko Surin National Park restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious Thai buffet. The lunch buffet is some of the best food available on any tour! After lunch, free time is available to swim at the nearby beach or relax and work on your tan. Remember to look up! Flying lemurs call this ecosystem home. You may be lucky enough to see one in flight
As with the first stop, the second location will selected based on sea conditions and the number of tourists at each location. The North Andaman Sea around the Surin Islands is home to numerous colourful fish species and multitudes of interesting invertebrate species. Keep your eye out for giant Tridacna clams, Christmas Tree worms, Nudibranchs, moray eels, anemone fish, parrot fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, puffer fish, and many more. Turtles and sea snakes are often spotted as well.
One more time we have to chance to dive into the clear waters of the Andaman Sea to explore the amazing underwater world at another spot.
It is time to say goodbye to the Surin National Park. After everyone is back onboard, the speedboat begins the trip back to our private pier, where refreshments await your arrival. Transit time back to the pier is around 1 hour and 40 minutes, depending on sea conditions.
Our minibus drivers will await your arrival, ready to take you back to your hotel in the Khao Lak area. You will be back in time to watch the magnificent Andaman Sea sunset at the end of the day.

HKT airport is just a one-hour transfer away from Khao Lak. Our transfer department can assist you in booking your direct transfer to Khao Lak from Phuket Airport.
Yes, staying overnight on the Surin Islands is permitted within the national park in the national park accommodation. Accommodation ranges from tents to air-conditioned bungalows. If you wish to book accommodation on the island, you must do so directly through the Mu Koh Surin National Park. Visit their webpage for more details. Once you book your accommodation, you still need to get to the islands and back. The Surin National Park Authority does not offer transportation to and from the island. You will be required to organize transportation to and from the national park through one of the speedboat operators who visit the islands on that day.
The Surin Islands are an underwater explorer's paradise! The waters in the marine park boast some of the richest marine diversity in Thailand, if not the world. Visibility underwater is usually above 20 meters and can reach as high as 40 meters. The underwater landscapes near the islands include vibrant coral reef slopes and plateaus that provide a haven for a wide diversity of reef fishes and invertebrates. Sea-faring reptiles, such as sea turtles and sea snakes, are also found near the islands. Large pelagics, like manta rays and whale sharks, also visit the park waters.
We include the National Park Fees in our prices.
Please note that the Surin Islands National Park is officially closed between May 15th and October 15th to ensure visitor safety and for park rehabilitation during the monsoon season. Unpredictable weather, tropical storms, and a significant increase in wave height pose a risk to boat travel and water sports activities. This period coincides with the sea turtle nesting season as well. Closing the park allows these endangered creatures to nest and hatch their eggs undisturbed, protecting future generations of these graceful reptiles.
Please be aware that cancellations made less than 24 hours before the tour date are non- refundable.
We accept Surin Islands tour bookings up to the eve of the tour departure date. Advanced booking is strongly advised due to the limited availability of spaces on the speedboats.
