Things to Do in Krabi: 10 Best Activities (2026 Guide)
Krabi province is one of Thailand’s most scenic coastal destinations — a stretch of Andaman coastline south of Khao Lak, framed by towering limestone karsts, emerald lagoons, and island-dotted bays. Ao Nang is the main beach town; Krabi Town sits a few kilometres inland on the Krabi River. Most visitors base themselves in Ao Nang and take day trips to the surrounding islands and cliffs. Here are 10 things worth your time in Krabi.
1. Railay Beach
Railay is a peninsula accessible only by longtail boat from Ao Nang (20 minutes) — no road in. The east side is quieter with cave pools and karst formations; the west has the main white-sand beach. Phra Nang Beach at the south tip is one of the most photographed stretches on the Andaman Coast. Budget 4–6 hours as a day trip or stay overnight.
2. Four Islands Tour
The standard Krabi day trip: longtail or speedboat to Tup Island, Chicken Island, Mor Island, and Poda Island. You snorkel at two stops, have lunch on the beach, and are back in Ao Nang by early afternoon. Best booked locally from the beach the day before — prices from ฿600 per person by longtail.
3. Hong Islands
The Hong Islands (Koh Hong) sit 30 km west of Ao Nang in Hat Noppharat Thara Marine National Park. The main draw is a hidden tidal lagoon ringed by jungle-topped limestone walls — “hong” means room in Thai. Speedboat tours depart Ao Nang daily and include snorkeling and a beach stop.
4. Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
A Buddhist forest temple 3 km east of Krabi Town. The main cave complex is at road level; the viewpoint is at the top of 1,237 steep steps — about 45 minutes of climbing. The panorama over Krabi’s rice paddies and limestone towers at sunrise is exceptional. Dress modestly: shoulders and knees covered.
5. Sea Kayaking in Mangroves
Krabi’s mangrove channels run inland from Ban Bor Thor village, about 10 km north of Krabi Town. Guided half-day paddles take you through cathedral-like root tunnels past monitor lizards, mudskippers, and kingfishers. Combine with a visit to Khao Khanab Nam — twin limestone karsts rising from the Krabi River estuary, accessible by longtail.
6. Rock Climbing at Railay
Railay East has some of the most accessible ocean-cliff climbing routes in Southeast Asia — more than 700 bolted routes on limestone faces above the Andaman Sea, suited to beginners through advanced climbers. Half-day instruction courses from ฿800–฿1,200 are run by several operators on the east beach.
7. Koh Phi Phi Day Trip
Koh Phi Phi is 45 minutes by speedboat from Ao Nang. Maya Bay (the filming location of The Beach) reopened in 2022 with limited daily entries; Phi Phi Don is the main inhabited island with accommodation, dive shops, and viewpoints. Full-day tours depart by 8 am and include snorkeling stops en route.
8. Klong Thom Hot Springs and Emerald Pool
Inland in Klong Thom district, 60 km south of Krabi Town: the Emerald Pool (Sa Morakot) is a natural turquoise freshwater pool in the rainforest, plus a hot spring pool and Blue Pool nearby. Allow 3 hours. Best visited early — it gets busy by mid-morning. Combine with a stop at Ban Bor Thor hot springs (same district).
9. Krabi Town Night Market
The Friday–Sunday walking street on Maharaj Road in Krabi Town runs from dusk. Local food stalls, regional dishes (khao yam, moo yang, fresh grilled seafood), and crafts. Quieter than the Ao Nang strip — a good alternative base if you want the south’s real pace at a lower price point.
10. Sunrise at Noppharat Thara Beach
The long municipal beach north of Ao Nang, inside Hat Noppharat Thara Marine National Park. At low tide you can walk 400 m out across the exposed seabed to the offshore islets. Uncrowded at sunrise and sunset, with consistent views of the karst towers across the bay. Free entry; fishing boats moor at the north end.
