Cheow Lan Lake Tour Highlights
Short on time? If you can’t stay overnight, our Cheow Lan Lake day trip covers the same emerald scenery and longtail boat ride in a single day, returning you to Khao Lak the same evening. Want to go deeper into the rainforest? Our Khao Sok 3-day trekking tour adds jungle trails and more time on the water.
What’s Included in Your Cheow Lan Lake Adventure
This Cheow Lan Lake tour is fully guided and all-inclusive from the moment we collect you in Khao Lak. Your price covers hotel pickup and drop-off, every longtail boat transfer across the lake, and an English-speaking guide for the full two days. One night in genuine Khao Sok floating bungalows is included, along with all national park fees, two lunches, dinner, breakfast, and drinking water on the boat.
Activities are built in too — the jungle walk, the bamboo raft to Pakarang (Coral) Cave, canoeing, and swimming in the lake all come as part of the package. You only need to bring sunscreen, swimwear, a towel, and a camera; alcoholic drinks, snacks, and tips are the only extras.
For full route and logistics information, see our guide on how to get to Khao Sok National Park from Khao Lak — including the drive to the Cheow Lan Lake pier.
New to Khao Sok? Read our complete Khao Sok National Park visitor guide — wildlife, best time to visit, and what to expect on the lake.
Flying into Phuket the day before? Pre-book a private Khao Lak airport transfer — hotel pickup for this tour departs from Khao Lak, and arriving the evening before gives you a full night's rest before the lake adventure starts.
The journey from Khao Lak to Ratchaprapa Dam — the launch point for the lake — is a scenic 80 km drive through protected forest, and KLLD's private van takes you door-to-jetty with all your gear so you step onto the longtail boat ready to go. Arrange your transfer to Khao Sok when you book the bungalows.

Exact timings flex with conditions and traffic — your guide sequences the stops to keep them calm rather than rushed. This is how the day usually runs.

Day 1 Hotel pickup and transfer to Ratchaprapha Pier, where we board a traditional longtail boat for a scenic ride across Cheow Lan Lake. Watch as limestone cliffs rise dramatically from the emerald water. We stop at a raft house for lunch before heading out on a jungle trek. After about 40 minutes, a bamboo raft takes us to the entrance of Pakarang Cave, where glittering stalactites and stalagmites form coral-like shapes. After exploring, we return to the raft house, enjoy dinner by the lake, and spend the night in charming Khao Sok floating bungalows surrounded by nature.

Day 2 Wake up to the tranquil beauty of the lake and enjoy breakfast. The morning is yours to swim, paddle a canoe, or simply relax on the deck. After checking out, we cruise back by boat and continue to a local restaurant for lunch. On the way home, we stop at the Ban Nam Rad Watershed Forest, a natural spring hidden in the jungle where you can swim in turquoise, crystal-clear water. In the afternoon, we return you to your hotel in Khao Lak with unforgettable memories of Cheow Lan Lake.

Check dates & book →The floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake are rustic timber-and-thatch raft houses built on platforms over the water. Expect simple wooden beds, fans (no air-conditioning), and shared bathrooms. Electricity is solar or generator-powered — available in the evenings only. There is no Wi-Fi, which is genuinely part of the appeal: most guests describe the total digital detox as one of the highlights of the trip.
Meals are served together on the communal raft deck with the limestone karsts reflected in the emerald water in front of you. The accommodation is basic by design — the setting is the experience, and it's extraordinary.
Cheow Lan Lake sits inside Khao Sok National Park, which has one of the highest biodiversity densities in Southeast Asia and is home to rainforest that is 160 million years old — older than the Amazon. You are likely to hear gibbons calling from the jungle every morning and may spot hornbills, rare birds including Gurney's pitta, tapirs, and Malayan sun bears on guided jungle walks. Elephants occasionally come to the lake edge at dusk to drink.
The overnight stay is the key difference here: day visitors pass through; guests who sleep on the water experience the full soundtrack and rhythm of one of the world's oldest forests.
Our Khao Sok day trip from Khao Lak (from ฿2,500) reaches the lake for a longtail cruise and cave exploration before returning to Khao Lak the same evening — a full and rewarding day, but the lake visit is necessarily brief.
The overnight tour (from ฿8,500) adds the floating bungalow stay, a second lake sunrise cruise at 06:00 when the mist sits on the water and the light is extraordinary, and a guided jungle walk on trails inaccessible on a day trip. If your itinerary allows even one night in Khao Sok, the overnight tour is the one to choose — the extra hours on the water make all the difference.
