The route

How the day unfolds.

Exact timings flex with conditions and traffic — your guide sequences the stops to keep them calm rather than rushed. This is how the day usually runs.

01 Stop

DAY 1

Bamboo raft to Pakarang Coral Cave on Cheow Lan Lake

Day 1 Hotel pickup and transfer to Ratchaprapha Pier, where we board a traditional longtail boat for a scenic ride across Cheow Lan Lake. Watch as limestone cliffs rise dramatically from the emerald water. We stop at a raft house for lunch before heading out on a jungle trek. After about 40 minutes, a bamboo raft takes us to the entrance of Pakarang Cave, where glittering stalactites and stalagmites form coral-like shapes. After exploring, we return to the raft house, enjoy dinner by the lake, and spend the night in charming Khao Sok floating bungalows surrounded by nature.

02 Stop

DAY 2

Ban Nam Rad Watershed Forest waterfall pool in Khao Sok

Day 2 Wake up to the tranquil beauty of the lake and enjoy breakfast. The morning is yours to swim, paddle a canoe, or simply relax on the deck. After checking out, we cruise back by boat and continue to a local restaurant for lunch. On the way home, we stop at the Ban Nam Rad Watershed Forest, a natural spring hidden in the jungle where you can swim in turquoise, crystal-clear water. In the afternoon, we return you to your hotel in Khao Lak with unforgettable memories of Cheow Lan Lake.

Good to know

Before you go.

What are the floating bungalows like? Is there electricity or Wi-Fi? +

The floating bungalows on Cheow Lan Lake are rustic timber-and-thatch raft houses built on platforms over the water. Expect simple wooden beds, fans (no air-conditioning), and shared bathrooms. Electricity is solar or generator-powered — available in the evenings only. There is no Wi-Fi, which is genuinely part of the appeal: most guests describe the total digital detox as one of the highlights of the trip.

Meals are served together on the communal raft deck with the limestone karsts reflected in the emerald water in front of you. The accommodation is basic by design — the setting is the experience, and it's extraordinary.

What wildlife might we see on Cheow Lan Lake? +

Cheow Lan Lake sits inside Khao Sok National Park, which has one of the highest biodiversity densities in Southeast Asia and is home to rainforest that is 160 million years old — older than the Amazon. You are likely to hear gibbons calling from the jungle every morning and may spot hornbills, rare birds including Gurney's pitta, tapirs, and Malayan sun bears on guided jungle walks. Elephants occasionally come to the lake edge at dusk to drink.

The overnight stay is the key difference here: day visitors pass through; guests who sleep on the water experience the full soundtrack and rhythm of one of the world's oldest forests.

How is the overnight Cheow Lan Lake tour different from the Khao Sok day trip? +

Our Khao Sok day trip from Khao Lak (from ฿2,500) reaches the lake for a longtail cruise and cave exploration before returning to Khao Lak the same evening — a full and rewarding day, but the lake visit is necessarily brief.

The overnight tour (from ฿8,500) adds the floating bungalow stay, a second lake sunrise cruise at 06:00 when the mist sits on the water and the light is extraordinary, and a guided jungle walk on trails inaccessible on a day trip. If your itinerary allows even one night in Khao Sok, the overnight tour is the one to choose — the extra hours on the water make all the difference.

We where met by our driver at the terminal exit with a clear sign displaying our surname, our cases where taken and carefully loaded to the transport which was clean and very comfortable. Our driver drove in a calm and safe manor dropping us to our hotel front door and unloaded our cases. overall a great experience.

Absolutely brilliant trip! We did the overnight treehouse tour which included bathing elephants, rafting down the river, staying in a lovely treehouse cabin and exploring the Cheow Lan lake on Thai longboat. There were so many highlights and our tour leader Ares added a lot to the experience with her knowledge, passion and humour. I would thoroughly recommend this tour!
