Itinerary

Pick-up from your Hotel in Khao Lak Area

Your friendly driver and guide will pick you up in a comfy air-conditioned minibus at around 8 am, right in front of your hotel lobby.  The pick-up time may vary depending on where your hotel is located, but we'll confirm the exact time when you book.

Briefing

When visiting the elephants, visitors receive a briefing on the proper and ethical ways to interact with the elephants. In Thailand, the historical relationship between elephants and human beings dates back to the 12th century. This enduring connection created a rich tapestry of coexistence, symbiotic harmony, and historical significance. In modern times, many of the nation's elephants need a home and ethical tourism aids in the evolution of elephant welfare in the Kingdom of Thailand.

Feeding Your New Elephant Friends

Imagine the thrill of breaking the ice with the elephants by offering them delicious treats to eat! Just like us, elephants adore fruit! You'll receive a basket of fruit to hand-feed these amazing creatures and create unforgettable memories. Capture the perfect portrait of your new elephant friends during feeding time. It's the ideal opportunity to snap some amazing photos!

Jump in for an Elephant Bath

After you become acquainted with the elephants, get ready to join them in the river for the ultimate elephant pool party! These gentle giants absolutely adore splashing around and having a blast in the water, so make sure to pack your swim clothes because you're in for a wet and wild time!

If you decide to near the water's edge to take some memorable photos, be cautious not to accidentally get sprayed by the elephant's trunks. It's a good idea to bring a waterproof case for your phone or camera if you want to get close to the action!

Erlebnis Tour Elefanten baden

Unsere Empfehlung!!! Lieben Gruß Marcus & Jutta

If you love elephants 👍

Overall a good day especially a great experience and time spent with the elephants. Unfortunately the tour was spoiled by the speeds at which the driver was travelling, very dangerous and scary (Over 100kph in a 50kph zone and regularly at around 130-140kph on the open road). We could constantly hear the ‘Excessive Speed Alarm’ in the vehicle beeping. It maybe acceptable locally to drive at excessive speeds but not when you are driving a tour bus. Both my wife and myself felt unsafe. Some of the other passengers also commented. Very disappointing.

An amazing day out in Khao Sok - not to be missed

My wife and I booked the Khao Lak Land Discovery Khao Sok Day Trip. This was a whole day tour and was fantastic. Our guide was Gift, who spoke perfect English and was absolutely delightful. Nothing was too hard and she was incredibly knowledgeable. We were picked up at our resort and first went to Takua Pa’s morning market. This was mainly a food market and Gift explained the different fruits and vegetables and then we had time to meander. Gift bought some sticky rice delicacies for us to have later. We then stopped at a waterfall which, unfortunately had no water. Not Gift’s fault! Then to an amazing viewpoint where you see across the valley to the mountains. Really spectacular. We then had one of the highlights. We visited en elephant sanctuary and went down to the river where we washed and scrubbed the elephant and fed the elephant bananas. It was interesting to see how such a large animal was so gentle, We had cold drinks and fresh fruit there as well.We stopped at the monkey temple. This was really interesting. The original temple was built in a massive cave and there were monkeys everywhere. We had lunch at the Rock and Treehouse Resort. Lunch was Thai style with Tom Yum Soup (a little milder for us westerners), Pad Thai and dishes with chicken and vegetables. Clearly freshly made and absolutely delicious. My wife is vegetarian and they made special food for her, including tofu. After lunch another highlight. We took a canoe trip down the Sok river. There were two people plus the guide/paddler in each canoe. The scenery was spectacular, with huge cliffs and wild jungle. We saw 2 snakes on the way. Half way we stopped for afternoon tea. The guides cut coffee cups from bamboo, including stirring spoons. They built a fire and made the coffee. We enjoyed the sticky rice delights which were - interesting. We finally returned to our resort at about 4.30pm. It was an amazing day and I strongly recommend this tour to anyone. The elephants and the canoe trip were amazing.

Great trip with kids

We did the Half day elephant visit, which we really enjoyed. Kids loved seeing the elephants so close and having the opportunity to swim/bath with them was amazing.Company also kindly took us too the Sea turtle conservation project in Khao Lak at no extra charge (aside from the entrance fee). Kids loved this too.Only negative was that we were in the bus for 1.5hours, picking up other guests and again to drop off guests. With small kids this was a long time, especially as we were only at the elephants for 1.5hrs.

This is a review of the...

This is a review of the Half Day Elephant Welfare Centre trip we booked through them, which is advertised in their brochure.Firstly, but least importantly, it isn't a half day. After loads of travel and picks ups etc, it is around an hour and a half there.More importantly, it is not a welfare centre. The elephants are ordered around a very small enclosure and respond to command. They look dead behind the eyes and are marched down to the steam to be washed by groups of tourists. They must have to do this multiple times a day. They are bread in captivity and you can make out their small cages in the distance. It's not good to see and I cannot understand how this contributes to their 'welfare'.We were naive, but it has made me realise I should not have contributed towards this industry and will never pay for any kind of animal interaction again.

Review safari

Very enticing program but very mixed once there! The activity with the elephant is very good, kindness, laughter, memories, landscape, finally sharing everything is part of the game! The visit of the temple was beautiful and complete, we read a lot of information thanks to our guide. The perfect bamboo ride right after the meal to digest well.As for the rest I find it incomplete for the price.Waterfall time is half an hour (yet it costs nothing )Activity with turtles! M biggest disappointment the entry is first of all 60 baht only, as much to go there by his own means or not at all since there is nothing. 4 unhappy pool with 3 different type of turtle. Visiting an aquarium would have been better. The restaurant was good but we were rushed to eat. The visit of the stranded boat due to the tsunami (free) was short, uninformative, no desire we were dropped off blind and left immediately.Well good apartment the elephant and the bamboo ride I advise against, it is a waste of money knowing that there halves of the activities offered are free you have as much to go yourself for less. Guide who forces to tip and it does not make you want at all.

Wonderful bonding with the elephants

I made a last minute decision to visit elephants up close, and it was one of the best decisions I made on my trip. Not only was our tour guide, Volker, fluent in English he was knowledgeable about the elephants and also Thai life in general. I always have lots of questions and he had lots of answers for me. The elephants were indeed gentle giants and we we’re warned ahead of time that they are never pressured to do anything they don’t want to do. Lucky for us, they did want to get bathed and petted. Definitely a good way to spend half a day.

Half Day Elephant Welfare Centre (not really a welfare centre)

Very disappointed with this. 2000 baht per person for a 'half day tour' to an elephant welfare centre.Firstly, it wasnt a half day tour. It is basically an hour there once travel is removed. We were also guided by a slightly sketchy Dutch guide that was coughing his guts up the whole time.Secondly, and most importantly, it isn't a welfare centre. It is basically a pen, with cages hidden in the distance, owned by a Thai family that have elephants bread in captivity. I must be missing how this area benefits the animals that look dead behind the eyes. The elephants respond to command and are ordered around and then washed by groups of tourists. It isn't good to see, although the only positive I can take is that it opened my eyes and made me realise how naive i had been by expecting something different. I would never pay for anything where humans interact with animals again.

Haben zwei Touren unternommen. James Bond und das verpönte Elefantenreiten. Pro: Pünktliche Abholung. Saubere Busse. Kleine Gruppen.

Khao Sok day trip

From the moment we were picked up, we felt very at ease. The tour guide Kim was absolutely amazing. We had a small group of 4 and Kim was speaking between English, French and Thai all day. Her English was exceptional, very fluent. We were collected at our hotel right on time at 8.15. Upon pick up Kim explained the activities of the day and the itinerary so we knew exactly what to expect. She was extremely knowledgeable about the Thai history and landmarks as we made our way into Khao Sok. First stop was the morning markets. Was definitely an experience. So much fresh seafood and fruit/veg. Lots of items we couldn’t even identify! Was a short visit, about 20 minutes, but it was all we needed to look through the food stalls. Upon returning to the bus we were offered cold water from the esky which was much appreciated. Kim has purchased some unusual food items at the market for us to try. We were then given the opportunity to try local fruit, deserts and the unusual century egg in the bus that Kim has selected. Before long we arrived at the viewpoint. It was a lovely sight, great for photos. Once again Kim explained about the history of the formation of the landscape and the surrounding flora and fauna pointing out some unusual plants to us. Then we were off again to Khao Sok. We arrived a short time later at the river for our canoeing experience. We were provided with the essentials to keep us dry with raincoats and a waterproof bag. Once again Kim explained everything and gave us tips for along the way. Our canoeing guide was amazing. He pointed out a lot of wildlife and took the time to stop and show us. We saw snakes, monkeys, fish, frogs, and birds along the way. It really was a great experience. The highlight of the trip. We stopped half way down the river for coffee which was supplied in a bamboo cup and boiled through bamboo. At the end of the canoe trip we were given an opportunity to purchase photographs however this was not pushed on us. Photos were 250 baht. Once again we were offered cold drinks and refresher towels. We then went to the treehouse resort where we were spoilt with an array of Thai cuisine for lunch. The food was fresh and very tasty. A bottle of soft drink was also provided. After lunch we were off to Win Park elephant conservation park for our elephant ride. We stopped off at the monkey park on the way and saw lots of monkeys playing. They were quite tame and came up to us looking for food. We didn’t feed them because we didn’t want to be jumped on! Lots of good photo opportunities. On the way Kim gave us a lot of valuable information regarding the elephant laws in Thailand. It was really interesting. Hot tip - even if it is sunny, take a raincoat on the trek! We should have listened to Kim because about halfway through our trek it started pouring rain! It didn’t seem to worry anyone though because we were all having such a great time. The trek took about 45 mins and we went through small streams, jungle and rocky areas. The elephants seemed really well cared for and were very well trained. After the trek, we were given the opportunity to feed our elephant some fruit for 50 baht. Once again our driver offered us cold drinks and tea and coffee after the trek. Then it was time to head back to Khao Lak. Kim gave us more information about things like the tsunami, Thai police, driving laws, Thai trades etc. She was so knowledgeable! The driver stopped off for a few moments so we could see the tsunami mass cemetery. We were back to our hotel by 4pm. All in all we had an excellent experience which we really think was largely due to Kim. She was absolutely amazing. Our driver was very friendly too. Was a long day but it didn’t feel as though it dragged at all. We had so much fun and enjoyed some experiences we would never get anywhere else. One thing I would suggest is to make sure you bring a waterproof bag, bug spray and sunscreen. And a camera for lots of photos!! We had a good time going through all our happy snaps when we got home. Definitely recommended!! Thanks Kim!

Professionell organisiert

Half day elephant ride and waterfall swim

We had a great time on the half day tour. Di Dho was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. The elephant jungle ride was very good, much better jungle than we have experienced further south in Phuket. The elephant handlers were friendly and the elephants were well cared for. Ton Pling waterfall was excellent - a beautiful spot and we enjoyed an excellent swim. Lunch afterwards was one of the best meals we have had in Thailand to date. Overall we had a wonderful time.

Elephant bath & trek

We made a last minute decision to visit the elephants & were keen to find somewhere that was ethically run. We researched as much as possible in the short time we had & ended up going with Khao Lak Discovery Tours. We had an exceptionally wonderful tour. We went on the half day tour which went either side of a delicious Thai lunch. We travelled in a comfortable minibus via a stop at the waterfalls. We first met our elephant guide who obviously had a lovely relationship with his elephant. After a delightful ride through the jungle, where our guide happily took photos all the way along, we arrived back to what was the highlight. ... awonderful swim with our elephant. Our guide from the tour company was very helpful, knowledgeable & friendly. I would definitely recommend this company & experience to anyone who has just a short time available to experience these beautiful animals.

Brilliant Tour Company!

We booked the half day Elephant Trek, bathing and waterfall visit with this company who have a branch just down from our hotel (The Merlin Resort). The tour was an unforgettable experience and my worries over the welfare of these wonderful creatures was put at ease when I saw them with their keepers. We took our two children aged 7 and 9 with us and the tour was appropriate for their ages. As we'd had such a great experience, we booked the 'James Bond Island' tour with some trepidation as to how our children would cope with the heat and long day. Yet again, we were delighted with all aspects of the trip. Air conditioned minibus, plenty of cold drinks supplied, lunch laid on and the most stunning scenery. Our tour guide, Gift, was an enthusiastic and friendly host and her English was perfect. I would highly recommend this company.

Great day with the elephants

We had a brilliant trip to Elephant Fantastic with Land Discovery. The guide was great, telling us all about Thailand and its people as well as the elephants at the site. I was a little concerned about going to a place that exploited animals, and while I'm still slightly concerned about elephants carrying tourists all day, the trek was short and the elephants seemed well seed for. The handlers were friendly and kind to the elephants and the site was professional and clean. I enjoyed bathing the elephants at the end of the trip.Worth the half day visit for sure. We also had a great lunch provided by the locals. Better than I have had on other trips.
