The route

How the day unfolds.

Exact timings flex with conditions and traffic — your guide sequences the stops to keep them calm rather than rushed. This is how the day usually runs.

01 Stop

4:00 to 5:30 Pick-up from your Hotel in the Khao Lak and Phuket Areas

Avoid the crowds at the islands with an early morning pick-up time. Pick-up times begin at 4am in Phuket and 5am in Khao Lak. The exact time is dependent on the location of your hotel. Enjoy a light breakfast, sip a coffee or tea, then receive a short tour and safety briefing before departure. Embark on the 75 minute cruise to the Surin Islands aboard one of our speedboats.

02 Stop

Visit the Moken Village

Explore the unique sea-faring culture of the Moken people. The Moken people, being traditionally nomadic, settled at the Surin Islands, which they have called home for centuries. Visit their traditional village, interact with their fascinating way of life, and witness their incredible skills of navigating the turquoise waters in handcrafted boats. The Moken people make traditional hand-made jewelry and crafts to share their culture with visitors. If you wish to take home one of these authentic souvenirs, remember to bring your pocket money ashore when you arrive at the village.

03 Stop

First Snorkel Stop

Based on the sea conditions, our experienced tour guides will choose the best spot for snorkelling with the fewest tourists possible. Please remember to look at, but not touch, the marine flora and fauna. As the SCUBA divers say, take only pictures and leave only bubbles. The water temperature is around 30˚C. The visibility is usually above 20m. Look out for sea turtles while exploring colourful coral reefs, teaming with vibrantly coloured fishes and invertebrates. Thailand is home to five sea turtle species, from the ornate-shelled Hawksbill to the largest species in the world, the Leatherback.

04 Stop

Lunch and Time to Relax on the Beach

Surin islands snorkeling day trip

For your lunch break, we will take you to the Mu Ko Surin National Park restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious Thai buffet. The lunch buffet is some of the best food available on any tour!  After lunch, free time is available to swim at the nearby beach or relax and work on your tan. Remember to look up! Flying lemurs call this ecosystem home. You may be lucky enough to see one in flight

05 Stop

Second Snorkel Stop

As with the first stop, the second location will selected based on sea conditions and the number of tourists at each location. The North Andaman Sea around the Surin Islands is home to numerous colourful fish species and multitudes of interesting invertebrate species. Keep your eye out for giant Tridacna clams, Christmas Tree worms, Nudibranchs, moray eels, anemone fish, parrot fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, puffer fish, and many more. Turtles and sea snakes are often spotted as well.

06 Stop

Third Snorkel Stop

One more time we have to chance to dive into the clear waters of the Andaman Sea to explore the amazing underwater world at another spot.

07 Stop

Departure from the Surin Islands

It is time to say goodbye to the Surin National Park. After everyone is back onboard, the speedboat begins the trip back to our private pier, where refreshments await your arrival. Transit time back to the pier is around 1 hour and 40 minutes, depending on sea conditions.

08 Stop

17:00 Return to your Hotel in the Phuket or Khao Lak Area

How do you get to the Surin Islands? +

From Khao Lak:

  • The Khao Lak area is the nearest and most convenient departure point for trips to the Surin Islands. It offers the shortest travel time by boat, making it an ideal choice for those who want to spend more time exploring the islands and less time in transit. The 55km speedboat ride from our pier typically takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes. Transit times are dependent on sea conditions.

From Phuket:

  • Phuket is considered too far for a Surin Islands day trip departure point by boat alone. The transit time by sea is too costly in both time and fuel. It is possible, but we advise those staying in Phuket to join our Surin Islands Tour departing from Khao Lak, drastically shortening the transit time on the boat for a more environmentally friendly and comfortable option. Please note there is an additional taxi fee of 400 THB per person.

From Krabi and beyond:

  • Krabi is generally considered too far for a Surin Islands day trip. The distance and travel time make it unsuitable. We advise you to stay a night or two in the Khao Lak or Phuket areas, whichever is more convenient for your travel itinerary. We offer private car and minibus.

Transfer: Phuket Airport to Khao Lak

transfer services to help make your Surin Islands wishes a reality. We suggest taking a flight to Phuket International Airport (HKT) if you will be staying further away. HKT airport is just a one-hour transfer away from Khao Lak. Our transfer department can assist you in booking your direct transfer to Khao Lak from Phuket Airport.

Can I stay overnight on the Surin islands? +

Yes, staying overnight on the Surin Islands is permitted within the national park in the national park accommodation. Accommodation ranges from tents to air-conditioned bungalows. If you wish to book accommodation on the island, you must do so directly through the Mu Koh Surin National Park. Visit their webpage for more details. Once you book your accommodation, you still need to get to the islands and back. The Surin National Park Authority does not offer transportation to and from the island. You will be required to organize transportation to and from the national park through one of the speedboat operators who visit the islands on that day.

What is the quality of snorkeling like at the Surin Islands? +

The Surin Islands are an underwater explorer's paradise! The waters in the marine park boast some of the richest marine diversity in Thailand, if not the world. Visibility underwater is usually above 20 meters and can reach as high as 40 meters. The underwater landscapes near the islands include vibrant coral reef slopes and plateaus that provide a haven for a wide diversity of reef fishes and invertebrates. Sea-faring reptiles, such as sea turtles and sea snakes, are also found near the islands. Large pelagics, like manta rays and whale sharks, also visit the park waters.

How much are National Park Fees for the Surin Islands? +
  • Foreigners: Adult 500THB Child 250THB
  • Thai Nationals: Adult 100THB Child 50THB

We include the National Park Fees in our prices.

What are Some Important Travel Tips for the Surin Islands? +
  • Surin Island National Park rules dictate that sunscreen must be reef-safe to protect the coral reefs from harmful chemicals and heavy metals. If you do not have reef-safe sunscreen, we have reef-safe sunscreen available for purchase at the pier
  • We provide motion-sickness tablets at the pier before departure, free of charge, to those passengers who are susceptible to sea sickness.
  • Please be aware that it is against park regulations to bring single-use plastics and foam boxes within the park boundaries.
  • Smoking is not permitted on the speedboat at any time. Smoking on the Surin Islands is restricted to designated areas.
  • Permits are required for flying drones. Please ensure you have obtained the proper permit before operating a drone within the park boundary.
When is the Surin National Park open to visitors? +

Please note that the Surin Islands National Park is officially closed between May 15th and October 15th to ensure visitor safety and for park rehabilitation during the monsoon season. Unpredictable weather, tropical storms, and a significant increase in wave height pose a risk to boat travel and water sports activities. This period coincides with the sea turtle nesting season as well. Closing the park allows these endangered creatures to nest and hatch their eggs undisturbed, protecting future generations of these graceful reptiles.

What is your cancellation policy for the Surin Islands Day Trip? +

Please be aware that cancellations made less than 24 hours before the tour date are non- refundable.

Booking Requirements +

We accept Surin Islands tour bookings up to the eve of the tour departure date.  Advanced booking is strongly advised due to the limited availability of spaces on the speedboats.

General Information about the Surin Islands +
  • The Surin Islands Archipelago is comprised of five islands that are world famous for their rich underwater environment, no doubt the best in Thailand. Richelieu Rock, the most famous diving site, is in the top ten sites in the world! The Surin Islands are about 55km from the mainland, north of the Similan Islands, and 18km from the oceanic border with Myanmar. The only buildings on the islands are those found at the national park public area and those at the Moken Village. About 100 species of birds reside within the park, including some of the rarest species in Thailand. Reptile species on the islands include king cobras, reticulated pythons, mangrove pit vipers, and clouded and water monitors. Sea turtle species within the park include the Green, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Leatherback, and Loggerheads. Leopard, white-tip, black-tip reef sharks, and large pelagic species such as whale sharks and manta rays inhabit the coastal and open waters around the islands. Flying lemurs can be found at the national park grounds and around islands. Most of the land area is off-limits to visitors, except the Moken Village and the National Park public area. Visitors found within protected areas will be fined and removed from the park.

Overall, we enjoyed the snorkeling tour....

Overall, we enjoyed the snorkeling tour. It was very well organized, ran on time, and started with a clear briefing. We also appreciated the flexibility when the guides changed the order of the first two stops due to crowds. One downside was that the snorkeling spots were very close to the shore, which was different from our expectations of snorkeling at reefs in open water. The coral reef was also only partly intact and colorful. However, we still saw turtles, clownfish, and other fish, which was a highlight. The guides did a great job spotting wildlife and ensuring everyone could see the turtles. We also noticed that reef-safe sunscreen was not really enforced, which is unfortunate given the condition of the reefs. Overall, a well-organized tour with great guides, despite a few minor drawbacks.

this cost a little more than I expected it to, but it turned out to be a lot of value for the money. Of course, it was a long day. pick up at 4:00 a.m. and the boat took off about 7:00 a.m. if you take the early boat you are one of the first ones to the snorkel spots. there was about a hundred feet of visibility and the best fish viewing I've seen in about 30 or 40 Asian snorkels I've taken. A pretty well run company. Very professional. on my boat there were Italian speakers, English speakers, and French speakers. They had a separate guide for each group. I also went to Surin Islands two days later, but although decent, not nearly as good or as clear. If you want a great experience book this trip.

All in all this was a great trip. A very long day from pick-up to drop off but worth the time. Wish there hadn't been so many other tourists but apparently this wasn't as busy as it could have been. The snorkeling could have been a bit better but supposedly a trip to the Surin Island group would have been better for that aspect. Guide was very good.
