Don Sak Pier, Surat Thani

Don Sak Pier is the main vehicle and passenger ferry terminal for the Gulf of Thailand islands, situated 35 km east of Surat Thani town. High-speed ferries and vehicle ferries depart from here daily to Koh Samui (45 minutes on the fast ferry), Koh Phangan (2 hours), and Koh Tao (4–5 hours). For travellers on the Andaman coast — staying in Phuket, Khao Lak, or Krabi — reaching Don Sak Pier is the most direct overland-plus-ferry route to the Gulf islands without flying.

Don Sak Pier is approximately 230 km from Khao Lak via Highway 4 — a 3–3.5 hour drive through Phang Nga Province, Surat Thani, and the Ban Don junction. Ferry Operators at Don Sak

Raja Ferry Port and Seatran Ferry both operate at Don Sak, running vehicle-and-passenger ferries to Koh Samui (Ban Taling Ngam pier, approximately 10 departures/day each direction). Night-speed ferries and bus–ferry combo tickets from Surat Thani town also serve backpacker travellers but are less practical with luggage. Once on Koh Samui, the Na Thon pier or Lomprayah high-speed connects onward to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
