The ferry crossing takes 1 hour 30 minutes. Tickets are purchased at the pier — no advance booking is required. The fare is approximately ฿150–200 per person for foot passengers; vehicle rates apply if you are transporting a rental car.

Alternative: Tapee Pier (passenger ferry)

If you are travelling as foot passengers and want a faster journey, Tapee Pier in Surat Thani city runs high-speed catamaran services to Koh Samui (Big Buddha Pier) in approximately 2 hours. The drive from Khao Lak to Tapee Pier takes around 2 hours 30 minutes through Surat Thani city. The Seatran Express runs daily at 08:00 and 15:00 from Tapee. This option is faster overall than Donsak but the departure schedule is fixed.
