We will pick you up bright and early and begin the journey to the park, stopping in historic town of Takua Pa to visit a traditional Thai morning market where you have time to peruse through the vendor's stalls and experience how Thai people have shopped for fresh meats and produce for centuries. After leaving Takua Pa, we stop along the way at a panoramic viewpoint to capture the breathtaking view over an expansive valley, blanketed with lush vegetation juxtaposed by towering karst mountains.
On the first day of the tour, we've planned a few exciting yet low-effort activities for you. An experienced Khao Sok canoe guide will paddle you down the Sok River to search for elusive fauna and exotic flora along the riverbank. Another destination is Wat Tam Panturat Temple to get up close and personal with the playful Macaque monkeys that reside there. Last, but not least, you will have the opportunity to meet the elephantine ambassadors of Khao Sok National Park, then join them in the water for an heart-warming elephant bath, a fan favorite for all ages!
After the activities planned for the first day have concluded, we take you to the accommodation where you will be staying the night. During the ride, you will take a break midway to enjoy a coffee in an eco-friendly wild bamboo cup. However, the rugged terrain and dense rainforest make it difficult to explore on land. Canoeing down the Sok River is the perfect way to navigate this mountainous region. Without the need to paddle yourself, you can keep your hands free to take perfect photographs of the stunning landscape and elusive creatures that inhabit it. With knowledge of the local habitat and its inhabitants, your paddle guide can help you spot creatures you might otherwise miss.
While you may see a few species of primates while eating lunch or canoeing down the Sok River, you can get up close and personal with the resident monkeys at the Wat Tam Panturat Temple. The peaceful environment of the temple often attracts animals seeking refuge, including curious monkeys. However, monkeys are known to be collectors and may take your valuables, such as necklaces and bracelets. For this reason, we highly recommend leaving any such items in the minivan to avoid losing them to the monkey's collection.

Your guide will lead you on a one-hour trek through the 160 million-year-old rainforest and will assist you in spotting some of the more elusive creatures you might otherwise miss. While serendipitous encounters with wildlife may be the highlight of the hike, a keen eye will help you spot strange and exotic plants, including the largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia arnoldii. One of the stops your boat captain will make will allow you to step back in time as you walk through speleothems that took thousands of years to form. Stalactites hang precariously from the cave ceiling, and stalagmites rise from the floor, continuously growing in size. Today, the snapshot of the interior has never looked the same, nor will it ever again. The interior shape of this cave is constantly evolving and will continue doing so long after we are gone.
After the morning activities, you will likely have worked up an appetite. Your captain will make way to a floating raft house restaurant where a delicious traditional Thai lunch awaits. After lunch, there is time to jump in for a refreshing swim in vivacious waters or sit back, relax, and take in the view. Please inform us when you book if you have any special dietary restrictions or requirements. We will do our best to accommodate them.
As the tour of the lake comes to an end, your captain will make way to the pier, where your minibus driver will be waiting. Please be sure to take all of your belongings off the boat when you disembark. Washroom facilities are available at the pier, so if you need to use them before the ride back to your hotel, now is the time.
After arriving at the pier near the Rajjaprabha Dam, you will board a traditional Thai Longtail boat to begin a sightseeing cruise across Cheow Lan Lake. As you’re captain and guide navigate the way to your accommodation for the night, make sure you have your camera ready, there are thousands of panoramic photo opportunities awaiting to be captured that are only possible by boat! Soon, you will take note that the boats carrying tourists on day trips begin to fade into the distance behind you. Your destination is much further across the lake, near protected wildlife sanctuaries, where wild elephants and big cats still roam. During the day’s cruise around the lake, your captain will stop at a few key locations where you will disembark with your guide to explore on foot. There are countless photo opportunities coming your way, so make sure you have your camera ready!

On the way to Khao Sok National Park, we make a short stop at the Takua Pa morning market. Markets such as this one are an integral part of the Thai economy, allowing local producers a place to sell the fruits of their labour. The adoption of the farm-to-table concept in the West may be trending these days, but it has always been the primary way that Thai people have shopped for fresh produce and fast food. You will have time to browse the stalls selling fresh produce, meats, seafood, and prepared dishes before we move on to Khao Sok.

The treehouse sits among the jungle canopy above the Sok River and is one of Khao Sok's most iconic stays. Rooms are simple but comfortable — wooden floors, fan cooling, mosquito nets, and outdoor showers. There is no air conditioning; the elevated jungle setting keeps the air naturally cooler than the coast. WiFi is minimal. Guests consistently describe the dawn chorus of gibbons and the mist rising off the river as highlights of their entire Thailand trip.
The 2-Day Discovery focuses on the treehouse stay and the national park jungle — it does not include Cheow Lan Lake or the floating bungalows on the water. If you want both accommodation types, the cave, and the lake, the 3-Day tour is the right choice. If you have one night free and want the iconic treehouse experience with a proper guided jungle walk, the 2-Day is a perfect fit for a tighter schedule.
Yes. The jungle walks are graded for a general audience at a relaxed pace — not for trekkers. Khao Sok's trails are well-maintained with boardwalk sections, and guides set the pace to the group. Families with children from around age 5 travel on this tour regularly. The bamboo rafting on the Sok River is a gentle float requiring no paddling experience.
