Khao Sok National Park is one of the oldest rainforests on earth — around 160 million years old, older than the Amazon — draped over dramatic limestone karst and centred on the emerald Cheow Lan Lake. It sits just over an hour inland from Khao Lak, the easiest gateway to the park. Khao Lak Land Discovery runs seven guided Khao Sok tours from Khao Lak, from single-day lake and jungle trips to overnight stays in a jungle treehouse or a floating bungalow on the water. Every tour includes hotel pickup and an English-speaking guide, at a fixed price.
Cheow Lan Lake — sometimes called the “Guilin of Thailand” — is the highlight of any Khao Sok visit: a 165 km² reservoir behind the Ratchaprapha Dam, ringed by jungle-clad karst peaks that rise straight out of the water. You can visit on a day trip, or sleep out on the lake in a floating bungalow.
Khao Sok is about 1 hour 10 minutes by road from Khao Lak. Our tours include door-to-door pickup, but if you just need transport we also run a private Khao Lak to Khao Sok transfer. For a full breakdown of routes and timings, read our guide to getting to Khao Sok National Park.
The park is open year-round. November to April is the dry season, with the calmest water and easiest trekking; the green season is lush and dramatic with fuller waterfalls. Cheow Lan Lake tours run in every season.
Khao Sok National Park is in Surat Thani province, southern Thailand, just over one hour by road inland from Khao Lak — the closest and easiest beach gateway to the park. It protects one of the oldest evergreen rainforests on earth and the vast Cheow Lan Lake.
A single day is enough to see Cheow Lan Lake or trek the jungle on a day trip from Khao Lak. To sleep in the park — in a jungle treehouse or a floating bungalow on the lake — choose a 2-day tour, or the 3-day discovery to combine both.
Longtail-boat tours across the emerald Cheow Lan Lake past towering limestone karst, guided jungle trekking in the ancient rainforest, cave exploration, canoeing on the Sok River, wildlife spotting (gibbons, hornbills, gaur), and overnight stays in treehouses or floating raft-house bungalows.
Khao Sok is open year-round. The dry season from November to April brings the clearest water and easiest trekking, while the green season is lush and dramatic. Cheow Lan Lake tours run all year.
