Mai Khao Beach, North Phuket

Mai Khao Beach is the longest and least developed beach on Phuket Island, stretching nearly 17 km along the island’s northern coast from the Sarasin Bridge south to the headland above Nai Yang Beach. The shore is broad, lined with casuarina trees, and almost entirely free of commercial development — a protected nesting site for sea turtles (Olive Ridley and Leatherback) that come ashore between November and February. A handful of ultra-luxury resorts occupy gated compounds along the beachfront, including JW Marriott Phuket, Sala Phuket, and Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas.

Transfer from Khao Lak to Mai Khao Beach

Mai Khao Beach is Phuket’s northernmost beach, making it the closest Phuket-side destination to Khao Lak — just across the Sarasin Bridge that connects the Phang Nga mainland to Phuket Island. The drive from central Khao Lak to a Mai Khao resort is approximately 50–60 km (50–65 minutes). Phuket International Airport is just 5 km from Mai Khao’s southern end — the airport’s proximity makes it a natural overnight choice for travellers with early-morning departures or late arrivals. Nai Yang Beach (quieter, with a national park), Nai Thon (very secluded), and Bang Tao (more active, with beach clubs) are within 15–25 km south along the coast road.
