Typische thailändische Familienrestaurants säumen die Hauptstraße und man kann trotzdem in nur 20 Minuten durch Khao Lak (La Own) schlendern und hat alles gesehen. Ursprünglich verdienten die Menschen hier ihr Einkommen durch Fischfang, Palmöl- und Gummibaumplantagen, und davor war die Gegend aufgrund des Zinnbergbaus wohlhabend, ein wichtiger Teil der Geschichte dieser Gegend.
Khao Lak ist in Strände unterteilt; Jeder Strand hat seine eigenen einzigartigen Qualitäten und Reize, mit oder ohne Bebauung.
