Day was brilliant with exception of Elephants

We wanted to make sure before you read this review that the negative feedback in here is with no reference to Khao Lak Land Discovery, who provided an excellant service. We choose the day safari with KLLD, we were picked up promptly from the hotel and from the moment we got on the minibus, until the day ended, the guide and driver were very informative and helpful. They told us what was happening at each step of the day, and kept us feed and watered. The trip was good value for money. There were 8 of us on the trip, of various nationalities. We started with a bamboo raft trip, which was excellant. Make sure you take your insect spray though. All the guides were good and we really liked this part of the day. With an optional photo at the end, but not bad value. The second part of the day was a short walk down to the "small beach" which was lovely and secluded , just the right amount of time to enjoy a swim or a relax. Next to lunch, brilliant food, plenty of it, very tasty and a nice strong coffee after. The guides really looked after us here and we have no complaints at all. A short walk to the waterfall for some pictures. Next was the part of the day that unfortunately we did not enjoy. We choose to do an elephant trek to the waterfalls. We both felt very uncomfortable about this. The elephants did not appear to be very well treated, the elephant guides did not seem to have a rapore with their elephants. There was little cushioning on the elephant between us and them, we were comfy but not sure they were. The guide continued to whip or pik the elephant even though it appeared to be moving along at a steady pace. We were left to make a short walk to a waterfall on our own, and although this was beautiful but we didnt want to swim and so had to sit and wait for the guides to take us back. Again another very upsetting ride back. When we did get back we were offered, for a small fee, food to give the elephants, we felt that the elephant expected food so did buy some, but actually once we had brought it we felt that the elephant was almost made to eat the not very fresh produce. We have visited elephant sanctuarys before in Thailand, Africa and Bali but this was the most unpleaseant experience we have had so far. I dont want this to reflect badly on KLLD but my suggestion would be that they perhaps look to take the Elephant trekking part of the day to somewhere where the Elephants are treated as they deserve. Khao Lak Land Discovery were very helpful, informative and the trip was good value for money. We woudl highly recommend this trip less the Elephant trek.

3 Touren in 12 Tagen.

James Bond island tour

While staying in beautiful Khao Lak we took advantage of seeing one of Thailands more famous islands James Bond Island from the Roger Moore "The Man with the Golden Gun". On the day of our tour it was a very early start with a 7am pick up a and we were excited for the adventure that was ahead of us . Our tour guide was a guy from Holland and was roughly presented and I felt there was no real friendly connection from the beginning. We proceeded to pick up another couples that were from Germany and they were all really lovely however nobody spoke English so we communicated through smiles , and friendly hand gestures . The guide then proceeded to talk in German which is fine but neglected to translate to us so we missed out on a lot of significant info along the way. After a long drive we rendezvous with an old Thai Tail boat and we were heading down river towards the sea . The scenery was breath taking and camera in hand is a 'must'. Upon reaching our destination which took an hour or so the guide muttered that it was too busy on JB island and we just sailed on by ! . Every one was disappointed and beginning to question what had we paid quite a substantial amount of dollars for ?. We then went further to another are for some sea kaiaking around some caves for an hour or so and back on the boat to which we all thought was headed to the main attraction. No , we sailed straight past again which was terrible as everyone needed a toilet stop on the boat which was ignored even though two ladies on the boat were in tears as their bladders were on the brink of bursting . We were disgusted . The tour guide then took us a floating village where we manage to dock after 45 mins or so to see every lady scramble off the boat in desperate search of a toilet . The guide casually gestured they are over there and we all made a bee line toward them to then realize this vast village was a labyrinth . We all finally found them but they were closed !. There were little girls selling souvenir's so we told them we would by lots if they took us to a toilet which thank god they promptly did ! . Then comes the interesting part of the day , the tour guide had left us for dead and proceeded to take the other couples onwards . We searched and searched the labyrinth of markets and stalls for our group to find ourselves hopelessly lost and no tour group or help insight which is very distressing considering how remote we were from land . All in all were saved by one thing............. my mobile phone , don't leave home without one ! . If we didn't call the head office and have them call the tour guide we would of been clearly in deep trouble . He came back to retrieve us with a load of pathetic excuses and walked us back to the group which mind you was on the other side of the island . There was no way we could of dreamed of finding them on our own . On arrival to the restaurant for a scheduled lunch apparently we found all had eaten and we were offered left overs and scraps which we plainly said " are you joking?!". We couldn't wait to get back to our beautiful hotel with the view of trying to forget the whole day and wasted funds for the tour from hell . After another long boat ride and long drive i asked the driver to stop in town , we got out and told the guide we will make our own way back to the hotel via taxi , but not before a good stiff drink and some delicious food as we were ill from not eating since 6am and it is now 6pm .All in all this is our 6 th trip to Thailand and we adore the country and its beautiful people and kind hospitality , so you can say we if you are a first time traveler you might have found our experience a bit more perplexing !!. So in conclusion , travelers beware of this company and do your research to ensure a wonderful experience instead of what we all do usually and take a leap of faith on what you assume to be a reputable company with a professional well planned tour . In this case not . I take refuge in the idea of sweeter adventures ahead !. Good luck fellow travelers and hope this may help you ensure a more successful tour of "James Bond Island !" .

3tempel tour
