Hong Island tour (Phang Nga Bay - Panak Island)

Fabulous trip

My partner and I booked the 'James Bond Island' Tour and it was one of the highlights of our holiday. We were picked up right on time and made our way to Phang Nga Bay where our long tailed boat was waiting for us. The trip over to Ko Tapu, James Bond Island took around 45 minutes, the scenery was stunning and it was great to be able to spend an hour on the island. After that we took the boat over to a mangrove forest where we got into canoes and explored the area, this was magical, just beautiful. We then made our way to Ko Panyi which is a floating village overlooked by a fabulous Mosque, here we walked around the village and had lunch, which was probably one of the best meals we've ever had (and we eat out a lot!). Once back at Phang Nga Bay our minibus took us to a Buddist temple where we could climb through the caves and have a Buddist blessing by a resident Monk. All food and drinks were included in the price and the trip was great value for money. Our guide Cha Lin (or Charlie as he's also known in case I've mis-spelt his name) was knowledgeable and friendly. We were so pleased with our day we went back to Khao Lak the next day to thank the office staff for such a memorable experience. We'd highly recommend booking trips through Khao Lak Land Discovery, we'll be using their services again.

Great day tours

My wife and I used this tour company in nov 2013. we booked a full day tour which included bamboo rafting, tsunami memorial and elephant trekking. The price included lunch at a restaurant too. We happened to be the only people on the tour so we were given the choice as to which way round to do the tour and any extra stops we wanted. We started by going to do bamboo rafting. prepare to get wet though, once at the location you were passed to a guide who steers the raft down the river and through rapids, steering under the trees to point out the snakes hidden away. following this we took a detour to pay our respects to the victims of the tsunami. whilst a sombre location its powerfully moving to see the police boat which was washed 1km inland and remains in the same place as where it came to rest. memorials and photos surround the area, take your time to soak in the moving stories and pictures. Our guide for the day spoke excellent English and explained where he was during the disaster, totally captivating and powerfully moving. from here we went to a small beach, it involved a steady walk down a hill through woodland where we came across a few ani,als and insects. once at the beach we had spare time to swim and sun bathe.....we then went for lunch in a lovely local restaurant near a beautiful waterfall, we sampled traditional thai cusine which included a curry and some rice amongst other things such as soup. we left very full......lastly we went to the elephant park where we took a 1.5hrs ride aboard a big beautiful elephant. the animals are incredibly well looked after and treated like part of the family which is great to see. the staff don't do the usual thai tourist thing by allowing you to sit on the animals neck as this is not comfortable for the elephant. again this shows hoe they care for the animals there.at the end we fed the elephants by hand. This tour was highlight of our whole holiday and as Khao Lak is a very quiet area it was a great way to break up the sun bathing on the beautiful thai beaches. Booking was easy from start to finish, we also used the company for the airport transfer....highly recommended.

Program 3 Phang Nga Bay Hong Island

My 10 year old daughter and I did this tour yesterday, booked through our hotel. We had a 5.50am collection from the hotel to ensure we got the right tide to access the caves. The bus ride to the pier is approximately 1 hour and our guide Noi(?) barely spoke a word the whole journey. Just before we stopped, there was a quick pit stop for ice at a nearby 7-11. If you haven't brought snacks, I recommend you buy some here. It's a long morning before lunch. Water and cola are provided and a very small Thai snack around 11.30am but nothing substantial. At the pier there are clean toilets. I recommend you use them as again, it's a while before you get another opportunity. We boarded a boat (not the long tail). It was very slow, noisy and extremely uncomfortable seating. Take a towel to sit on or even better, a cushion. It's a two hour journey up the river to the bay and into the caves. However it is fascinating to see the tidal change, the bird life, the mangroves and later in the bay the limestone formed islands. On arrival at the island we boarded our own canoes and the guide, boat driver and another took us inside the caves as there were 6 of us on the tour, 2 to a canoe plus canoeist. Depending on the tide, some are not accessible. We went into two caves, diamond cave and mangrove cave. The latter we walked into as the tide too low for the canoe. They were really interesting and fascinating to visit. The highlight of the trip. Our guide gave some interesting tidbits of information but nothing substantial. After about 45 minutes we boarded our boat again and went to Hong Island where there were many more tourists, many arriving on speed boats. Amongst many other groups, we had another sea canoe into another cave as well as an opportunity to have a go yourself. Some people on other boats swam but the water wasn't terribly clear and didn't look too inviting. We had around 45 minutes here. Then back on the boat, (11.30am) and mini Thai snacks handed out before heading back. We passed James Bond island but did not get off although there were obviously hundreds of other tour groups who had.Around 12pm we arrived at the Floating Village where we stopped for a very delicious lunch. Toilets available here but not very clean. We were then given over an hour to explore the markets and the island, way too long as it is not very big and nearly every stall sells the same thing. Try to visit the mosque and the school. This is a Muslim island so no alcohol and a slightly different feel to mainland Thailand. I read a very interesting history of the island at the mosque but again, nothing from the guide as to its origins and way of life, which would have added so much more to the experience.A much quicker boat journey back as the tide was higher, however it was obvious we were on the slowest boat in the water as even the long tails overtook us. This probably adds at least an hour to the day, in which there is an awful lot of sitting. At least the boat was big enough to wander around unlike all other boats. We got back to the pier around 2.00pm and then an hour back to the hotel in the bus. This trip had the potential for so much more. An interesting guide that provides ongoing commentary and background information can add so much more to the experience. Unfortunately our guide was little more than a facilitator.A note on tips. Another couple on our tour was asked by their canoeist for a 200 baht tip. They didn't give it. They had been told by another guide on a previous tour that tipping is not necessary. Personally, if the service and in particular the guide is excellent and really adds to the trip, then I tend to tip about 10% of the trip cost but in this instance I didn't as the trip was already very expensive compared to others and I wouldn't consider good value for money.

Khao Sok Nationalpark - zwei unvergessliche Tage

Daumen hoch!!!
